Clear rules for using debtself.
These Terms apply to every debtself product — the assessment and recommendation engine, Planner, DIY Settlement, and the tools we release next. They sit alongside our Methodology, Disclosures, and Privacy Policy, each of which has a different role.
01 — Acceptance and permitted use
One set of Terms for every debtself product.
These Terms apply to any debtself tool, product, service, or experience — including the assessment, the recommendation engine, Planner, and DIY Settlement.
They cover the debtself website, the products at app.debtself.com, and debtself tools released later. Using any of them means agreeing to these Terms. If a specific product presents additional information or terms at the point of access, purchase, or enrollment, that information applies to that product in addition to these Terms.
You may use debtself only in a lawful way, and only for the purpose of understanding and acting on the debt-related situation you choose to describe.
debtself is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. By using debtself, you confirm that you are 18 or older. debtself is not intended for use by anyone under 18.
02 — Educational software
Guidance to help you understand a decision.
debtself is educational financial software. It is not a lender, a law firm, a credit counseling agency, a debt negotiation or settlement company, or a financial advisor.
debtself does not lend money, provide legal advice, provide credit counseling, negotiate with or contact creditors on your behalf, or provide financial advisory services. This is true of every debtself product, including Planner and DIY Settlement.
What debtself does is evaluate the information you provide and the paths available for evaluation at that time, so you can understand the tradeoffs and make your own decisions. It does not replace advice or services from a qualified professional when your circumstances call for them.
03 — debtself products
Software that helps you decide, and products that help you act.
debtself has two parts: a decision layer that helps you understand your options, and products you can use to carry out the path you choose.
- Assessment and recommendation engine
The assessment gathers the situation you describe, and the recommendation engine compares the paths available for evaluation. What it produces is informational — it is there to help you understand your situation and compare possible paths.
- Planner
A debt payoff planning product. It helps you build, run, and update a payoff plan from the numbers you enter.
- DIY Settlement
A consumer-directed settlement product. It provides preparation and workflow tools you use to organize and manage your own settlement process. debtself does not negotiate debts or contact creditors on your behalf.
Planner and DIY Settlement are debtself products, operated by debtself. They are not separate companies and they are not third-party providers. Choosing to use one is a separate step you take after a recommendation; a recommendation is not an obligation to use or buy anything.
04 — Your information and decisions
Your answers shape what you see.
You are responsible for the information you choose to enter and for the decisions you make after using debtself.
Information that is incomplete, inaccurate, or no longer current can affect the guidance, estimates, or plans presented. A recommendation or a plan reflects the situation and paths evaluated at that time. You decide whether to act, how to act, and whether to seek professional support.
05 — Recommendations, estimates, and outcomes
An estimate helps you compare. It does not promise an outcome.
Modeled figures depend on assumptions.
Actual results may differ.
Recommendations and modeled results are informational. Payments, timelines, interest, savings, costs, capacity, settlement amounts, and outcomes shown anywhere in debtself — in the assessment, in Planner, or in DIY Settlement — may be modeled or illustrative. They are not final terms, offers, approvals, or guarantees, and debtself does not guarantee that any creditor will accept an offer or that any particular result will follow.
Conditions outside debtself’s control—including changed circumstances, creditor decisions, provider availability, pricing, and final terms—can affect actual results. You decide what to do with what you see. Nothing debtself presents is financial advice or legal advice.
Our Disclosures explain these limits in more detail, and our Methodology explains how debtself evaluates the information and paths considered.
06 — Third parties and execution choices
Some destinations are debtself. Some are not.
The assessment, Planner, and DIY Settlement at app.debtself.com are debtself products, operated by debtself. Other destinations debtself may show you are operated by outside organizations.
The marketplace at offers.debtself.com is operated by EVVO Financial, and debtself may direct you to an outside organization such as the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). debtself does not operate those services and is not responsible for them. debtself does not send your assessment answers, balances, income, expenses, recommendations, or Planner information to them. Anything you provide in an outside experience, you provide directly to that organization.
Outside organizations make their own decisions about eligibility, approval, participation, availability, pricing, and final terms. Their products, websites, and services have their own terms and privacy practices. Review those materials before you continue with an outside organization or any product-specific process.
07 — Access, accounts, and paid products
Some debtself products are paid, and your access is personal to you.
Where debtself offers a product, purchase, account, or access feature, the information shown with that product describes what it includes and what applies to it.
- Access codes
Where a product is unlocked with an access code, that code is issued for your own use. Keep it confidential and do not share, sell, or publish it. You are responsible for activity that takes place through your access code or account.
- Recovering access
Where debtself provides a way to recover access — such as sending a recovery link to the email address used at purchase — use it only for your own access. A recovery link may be single-use or time-limited.
- Paid products
Products such as Planner and DIY Settlement are paid products. What a purchase includes, and the price, are described where that product is offered. Those details apply in addition to these Terms.
These Terms do not replace product-specific information presented at the point of access, purchase, or enrollment. Review it before you continue.
08 — Respectful use and intellectual property
Use the service without interfering with it or others.
You may not misuse debtself, interfere with its operation or security, attempt to access parts of the service you are not authorized to use, introduce harmful material, or use the service in a way that violates applicable law or another person’s rights.
Unless a specific item says otherwise, the debtself site, software, content, design, and marks are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of those materials to you.
09 — Availability, changes, and suspension
The service can change as the product changes.
debtself may change, update, limit, or discontinue a feature or service as the product evolves.
We may also suspend or restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect the service, users, or the integrity of debtself, including because of misuse of the service, unlawful activity, a security risk, or a violation of these Terms. Availability can vary based on the service, the information available, and circumstances outside debtself’s control.
10 — Disclaimers and liability
Use the guidance with its limits in view.
debtself provides educational decision guidance and software tools, not a promise of a particular financial, legal, credit, lending, or debt-resolution result.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, debtself and its products are provided as available and without a guarantee that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, complete, or suited to every circumstance. To the extent permitted by applicable law, debtself is not responsible for decisions you make, third-party actions or terms, or outcomes that differ from an estimate, recommendation, or plan.
Nothing in these Terms limits any protection that cannot be limited under applicable law.
11 — Governing law
Texas law governs these Terms.
debtself LLC is based in Texas. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Where the law that applies to you provides rights or protections that you cannot waive, those rights and protections continue to apply, and nothing in this section limits them.
12 — Changes and related information
Read the materials that apply to the choice you are making.
debtself may update these Terms as its products change. The version available when you use debtself is the version that applies to that use. Where a product, service, or outside organization presents more specific information, review it before you continue.
Our Privacy Policy provides the contact path for questions about information handling. For a product-specific question, use the contact option presented with that product or service.
