Privacy Policy

What happens to your information.

This policy explains the information debtself collects across the Assessment, Recommendation, Planner, and the debtself website, why it is used, when it may be shared, and how to make a privacy request. It also explains the choices and rights that may be available to you.

01What we collect
02How we use it
03Your choices

The information depends on what you choose to do.

An assessment needs information about your financial situation. Where Planner is available, it uses information to build and maintain your plan. A support request or site visit may involve other information.

Assessment and recommendations

Debt types and balances, minimum payments, income, living expenses and other required payments, payment circumstances, credit score range, and priorities you provide, together with the recommendation and modeled results generated from those answers. The Assessment processes these answers in your browser; its current flow does not upload your financial answers or recommendation record to a debtself server.

Planner information

Where Planner is available, debt names, balances, APRs, minimum payments, monthly capacity and budget inputs, payoff preferences, plan settings, reported balance updates, and progress or history. Saved plan and check-in records are associated with your signed-in account.

Product availability

DIY Settlement is temporarily unavailable. It does not currently accept settlement workflow inputs or purchases.

Account and access

An email address and authentication information for account access. Where Planner purchases are available, billing email, payment-provider identifiers, subscription status, and access records are used to determine product access.

Communications

Messages, support requests, feedback, and information you provide when you communicate with debtself.

Site and device

Technical and usage information that may be generated when you visit or interact with the site, such as pages viewed, selected interactions, browser or device information, referral information, and identifiers used by site technologies.

Information is used to provide the experience you ask for.

Depending on the part of debtself you use, information may be used to:

  • Provide the assessment experience and evaluate the financial situation you describe.
  • Generate decision guidance and explain a recommended path.
  • Provide, operate, and support debtself products — including the Assessment and Planner — and maintain your progress or history within them.
  • Process Planner subscription and access records where purchasing is available, and help you sign in when you request access.
  • Email requested sign-in links and service communications to the address you provide.
  • Respond to questions, provide support, and communicate about a request or service.
  • Understand site use, troubleshoot problems, evaluate product performance, and improve debtself.
  • Maintain the security, reliability, and integrity of debtself systems.
  • Keep business and transaction records and meet legal obligations where they apply.

Your answers shape the guidance and the plan.

Assessment answers, progress, and recommendation results are saved in this browser’s local storage so you can return to them. A choice between equally ranked paths may also be kept in session storage. These records are not an account backup and may be accessible to other people using the same browser profile. Starting a new Assessment clears the prior Assessment record; clearing debtself site data in your browser also removes locally stored records.

The recommendation depends on the information available at that time. Missing, inaccurate, or changed information may affect the result. After receiving a recommendation, you decide whether to continue and how to act on it, including whether to use Planner when available or an outside provider.

Where Planner is available, it saves your plan and progress through debtself’s servers to account-associated storage. Sign-in uses an email link and a browser-stored authentication session; access also requires an eligible Planner access record. Planner does not make payments to creditors or move money on your behalf.

This policy explains what happens to information. Methodology explains how debtself evaluates a situation. Disclosures explains what to understand about recommendations, estimates, and their limits.

Who may receive information depends on the service and the choice you make.

debtself may disclose information when another organization is needed to operate the service, support a choice you make, or meet an applicable requirement.

Service providers

debtself uses hosting and technology providers to deliver the site. Where Planner is available, Supabase provides authentication and data storage, Stripe processes subscription payments, and Resend delivers requested access emails. Stripe collects payment details in its checkout; debtself receives billing and subscription records used to manage access, rather than storing your full payment-card details in Planner. Service providers receive information needed for their roles, subject to the terms and privacy practices applicable to those services.

Analytics providers

debtself may use PostHog for the limited product analytics described below, including Assessment, Recommendation, handoff, and Planner activity. This measurement uses anonymous product identifiers, not verified consumer identities, and excludes financial inputs and modeled financial outputs. Some educational articles also contain the advertising tags described below. Analytics are separate from sending a financial record to an outside provider.

Third-party destinations

debtself links to outside services: the EVVO Financial marketplace at offers.debtself.com; the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC); Americor and Accredited Debt Relief for managed-settlement exploration; and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) attorney directory for professional review. These services are operated by their respective organizations, including when a destination uses a debtself-branded subdomain. A link or listing alone does not establish a partnership or endorsement.

Information you enter elsewhere

When you follow these links, debtself does not attach your Assessment answers, debt balances, income, expenses, recommendation, or Planner records to the destination URL or automatically send those records to EVVO, NFCC, the listed settlement providers, or NACBA. The destination receives a normal website request, which can include network and browser information. Anything you enter there is provided directly to that organization and governed by its privacy practices.

Legal and safety needs

Information may be disclosed when required or permitted by applicable law, or when reasonably necessary to protect consumers, debtself, or others.

The information context can change when you choose what happens next.

01Assessment
02Recommended path
03Execution choice

The assessment produces guidance. Choosing a debtself product, such as Planner when available, or an outside provider is a separate step.

If you continue, additional information may be requested to provide that product or service. Product-specific terms may also apply, and this policy governs the information you provide within debtself-operated products such as the Assessment and Planner.

Where that step takes place in an experience operated by a third party, such as the offers.debtself.com marketplace operated by EVVO Financial, the information you enter there is provided directly to that provider and handled under its own privacy practices. Review those materials before providing additional information or enrolling.

Some pages use cookies and other site technologies.

debtself may use PostHog to understand product usage, funnel performance, reliability, and where consumers drop off. The launch product analytics model is limited to the following categories:

  • Public page and Learn article views, and Assessment entry clicks.
  • Assessment progress: starting, resuming, opening review, starting fresh, and completing an Assessment; fallback presentation and review or continuation actions. Answers and field-level activity are excluded.
  • Recommendation views, returns to saved results, categorical result families, and the available or selected paths when equally ranked options are shown (Objective Equivalence). These describe the general path shown or chosen, not the underlying financial figures or comparison values.
  • Handoff views and clicks, with categorical destination, path, source, and placement information. Outbound clicks measure a choice to leave debtself, not a provider’s approval or enrollment outcome.
  • Planner funnel and access activity where available: landing and account views, checkout requests, starts and verified completions, access grants, successful sign-ins, Planner opens, and sign-outs. These events exclude payment amounts and plan contents.
  • Categorical operational errors for Assessment, Recommendation, handoffs, Planner, and checkout, limited to the component, operation stage, and error code, plus the destination for a handoff error. Raw error messages, financial payloads, and credentials are excluded.

debtself does not send PostHog debt balances or totals, income, expenses, monthly margin, creditor names, account balances, APRs or rates, payment amounts or minimum payments, modeled savings or fees, settlement amounts or estimates, payoff calculations or financially derived payoff dates or durations, credit scores, individual lender terms, financial account details, raw Assessment answers or free text, or Planner debt/account details. Financial ranges, buckets, and answer flags are also excluded. Recommendation measurement is limited to categorical result types and path identifiers, such as Planner, credit counseling, consolidation, settlement, or professional review, without the consumer’s underlying financial figures.

Measurement uses random anonymous product identifiers for browsers, visits, Assessment attempts, handoffs, and checkout attempts, including to connect checkout and access events reported by debtself’s servers. These are pseudonymous measurement keys, not verified identities or counts of unique people. The launch model keeps Planner analytics anonymous after sign-in, without linking them to an identified account profile or sending names, emails, payment-provider IDs, authentication IDs, or hashes of those values. Different browsers, cleared storage, and identity resets can count separately; the model does not link identities across devices.

The launch model does not include session recording, automatic interaction capture, raw URLs, query strings, page text, raw exceptions, or financial records in analytics events. This does not mean PostHog receives no identifying technical information: browser, device, or network metadata may still be processed by the service, and sending a request exposes an IP address to the receiving service. The launch event contract does not retain IP addresses or geolocation enrichment as event properties.

debtself analytics do not automatically forward Assessment or Planner financial information to NFCC, EVVO, Americor, Accredited Debt Relief, NACBA, or other providers. Analytics identifiers and Recommendation context are not passed to those providers for measurement. The third-party destination boundary described above still applies.

The five debt-education articles linked from Learn use PostHog analytics. The articles about creditor lawsuits, settlement credit effects, and lump-sum versus payment-plan settlement also contain the Pinterest Tag, Microsoft Advertising Universal Event Tracking, and the Reddit Pixel. These technologies measure visits and interactions and may support advertising measurement.

Depending on the page, service configuration, and browser choices, these services may use cookies or other browser storage and receive device, browser, IP address, referral, identifier, and usage information. You can manage cookies and site storage through your browser settings. Clearing site data also removes locally saved Assessment results and may sign you out of Planner.

Pages also request font files from third-party services, including Google Fonts, Fontshare, and jsDelivr. A request for a font can disclose standard network and browser request information to that provider.

Information is kept for as long as it is needed for the purposes described here.

debtself retains information as needed for business, operational, product, legal, or security purposes.

Assessment records remain in your browser until you reset the Assessment, clear site data, or your browser removes them; debtself cannot remotely delete a record held only in your browser. Where Planner is available, account-associated plan and history records, support messages, subscription and access records, and technical or usage records may be retained for the purposes described here. Signing out or clearing browser storage does not delete server-held Planner or billing records.

How long information is kept may depend on the type of information, the service involved, the reason it was collected, legal or contractual requirements, dispute or security needs, and whether a consumer asks to exercise an applicable right.

Your rights depend on the law that applies to you and the information involved.

Applicable privacy laws may give you rights to request access, correction, deletion, or limits on certain uses or disclosures. You may contact debtself about server-held Planner, account, or support information. Assessment records held only in your browser can be removed by resetting the Assessment or clearing debtself site data.

These rights are not universal, and exceptions may apply. debtself will review a request under the law that applies and may need information to verify the requester’s identity and authority before acting.

Safeguards reduce risk, but no system removes it.

debtself uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information.

No internet transmission, storage system, or security program can eliminate every risk.
